'Demo bomb' drops from training plane

A 'demo bomb' was recovered from a fishing enclosure at Ujantia union in Pekua Upazila of Cox's Bazar as it was spilled out a training plane.

Police recovered the 'demo bomb' with the help of local people around 2.30am on Tuesday. The rescued bomb was dropped from the YAC-130 training plane.

Cox's Bazar assistant superintendent of police (Chakaria Circle) Kazi Mohammad Matiul Islam said, "I contacted the officers of the Air Force after the incident. They said a 'regular training aircraft' of the air force was flying in the sky Tuesday afternoon. The demo bomb was spilled out of the training plane in Ujantia area of the upazila. Later, the demo bomb was recovered."

The bomb was placed on the embankment of the fish enclosure where police, Coast Guard and local security guards were seen surrounding it around 3:00pm.

Also, hundreds of enthusiastic people rushed to the rushed to spot to witness the unusual object.

Ujantia Union Parishad (UP) chairman M Shahidul Islam Chowdhury said, "The way the object was dropped from the sky with sound, we first thought that the plane crashed."

Pekua police inspector (investigation) Manjur Quader Majumder on Tuesday night said, "We immediately talked to the air force personnel. They said there was nothing to be scared."

Later the air force officials came to the police station and took the demo bomb.

Police also said a general diary will be filed on behalf of the police.
