Banani rape: Shafat confesses at court

Prime accused Ahmed Shafat today confessed his involvement in the act of rape before a local magistrate in the much talked-about Banani double rape case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib recorded his confession and sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, Shafat’s associate Shadman Sakif was confessing his involvement before another magistrate.

Ismat Ara Ame, investigation officer of the case, produced the duo before court after completion of their remand sentence and moved a plea for recording confession.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman assigned Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib and Metropolitan Mgistrate Sabbir Ahsan Chowdhury to record the statement.

Two university students came forth last month with allegations of rape against the five. They said they were raped in a birthday party at The Raintree hotel in Dhaka’s Banani on March 28.

Police said they have found the allegations to be true so far.
