Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman on Tuesday said 17,000 vacant posts of headmaster in primary schools will be filled up soon.

"We have already recruited 998 primary school headmasters from the 33rd BCS. The rest vacant posts will be filled up soon," said the minister while talking to reporters after a meeting at the secretariat.

Besides, some assistant teachers will be promoted as headmaster to fill-up the vacant posts considering their seniority, he said.

He said that the vacant posts could not be filled up in the last eight years as a case was under trial since 2009.

The minister said that there is a rule that 65 percent posts of headmaster will be filled up from assistant teacher post and rest 35 percent by direct recruitment and BCS.
