Comilla Mayor Shakoo secures bail

BNP-elect Comilla City Corporation Mayor Monirul Hoque Shakoo secured permanent bail from a Dhaka court today in connection with a corruption case of 2008.

Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Senior Special Judges Court passed the order after Shakoo appeared before the court and moved a bail petition.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Shakoo and his wife back in January 2008 charging them for amassing Tk 4.57 crore illegally and concealing wealth statement of Tk 1.12 crore.

BNP’s candidate Shakoo, who won the Comilla city polls held on March 30 this year, was suspended from office after the charges resurfaced and the court framed him on April 18.
