Road crashes kill 6 in Gopalganj, Chittagong

Six people including a police officer were killed and ten injured in separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Chittagong today.

In Gopalganj, a microbus rammed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Sadar upazila around noon, killing four people and injuring two others.

Among the deceased, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station Delwar Hossain, 32, and auto-rickshaw driver Azad Sheikh, 26 died on the spot, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-charge Omar Farook.

Four injured people were rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital where duty-doctors declared two others dead. Identity of the two deceased could not be known yet, the police official said.

In Chittagong city, two passengers were killed and eight others injured as a speeding human hauler overturned at Customs intersection around 6:45am.

The deceased are Rakib Hossain, 17, helper of the vehicle, and Amjad Hossain, 48, a Ready-made Garments factory worker, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Bandar Police Station.

The injured were taken to different hospitals.
