NSP to extend in 64 upazilas next fiscal

The National Service Programme (NSP), a project for temporary employment of the unemployed youths in the age group of 15-35 years, would be extended in 64 upazilas in fiscal 2017-2018.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in the parliament today in reply to a question from Umme Razia Kajol, a female member from reserve seats.

Sheikh Hasina said a total of 1,14,660 youths were given training under the National Service Programme and out of them 1,11,625 youths were given services in different government offices.

The government has already given approval for expansion of the service in three phases in 64 upazilas, she said.

Replying to another question from female member Selina Begum, the Prime Minister said the amount of monthly allowance of Freedom Fighters has been increased from Taka 900 to Taka 10,000 gradually since 2009. Total number of the recipients of the allowance has been increased to two lakh from one lakh, she said.
