A court here yesterday sentenced two brothers to death for killing a schoolboy in 2013.

The convicts are Nafis Hasan Nahid, 23, and Nazmul Hasan Nayeem, 25, sons of Shafikul Alam Hawlader of Adarshapara area in the town. Of them, Nayeem was tried in absentia.

District and Sessions Judge Md Golam Kibria also sentenced the duo to seven years' imprisonment and fined them Tk 50,000 each.

The court acquitted Shafikul, father of the two siblings, in the murder case as the charge brought against him could not be proved.

According to the prosecution, Sadman Shakib Prince, 14, son of Jakir Hossain Sarder alias Liton of the town, went missing on August 29 in 2013. Locals found his body floating on a pond in the area on September 1. Prince was a student of Pirojpur Government Technical School and College.

Later, the victim's father filed a case with Sadar Police Station, accusing eight people.

After investigation, Moniruzzaman Munir, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted a charge sheet before the court accusing Nahid, Nayeem and their father Shafikul.

Nahid and Nayeem killed Prince following an altercation over playing cricket, said the SI, also investigation officer of the case.
