58 houses for poor freedom fighters in Chandpur

The government has built a total of 58 houses in the district for 58 selected poor and distressed freedom fighters for their contribution to the great Liberation War in 1971.

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) sources said that Liberation War Affairs Ministry helped much construct the houses.

The houses have been built on the premises of poor and distressed freedom fighters' own ancestral lands, said the Commander of the District Unit's Muktijoddha Sangsad M A Wadud.

Of the houses, seven have been built in Chandpur Sadar, 12 in Faridganj, ten in Matlab North, nine in Hajiganj, eight in Shahrasti, six in Matlab South, four in Kochua and two in Haimchar upazilas.

The houses have already been handed over to the freedom fighters.

Moreover, the government has also taken an ambitious plan to build five-storey buildings in the district, said Chandpur LGED Executive Engineer G M Mujibur Rahman, adding that each building having the facilities for ten flats will be allocated for ten landless and poor freedom fighters.

Meanwhile, the ECNEC has approved this plan that will be implemented during the next fiscal year, added the executive engineer.
