BIWTA imposes restrictions on water transportation due to bad weather

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has imposed restrictions on  water transportation across the country, barring smaller vessels from plying due to rough weather under the influence of the depression at Bay.

Joynal Abedin, joint director of BIWTA told journalist on Monday morning that vessels shorter than 65 feet have been barred from plying.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department says the rough weather is likely to continue for the entire day on Monday along with sporadic rainfall throughout the country.

The met office special bulletin said the depression over North West Bay and adjoining North East Bay moved northeastwards and now lies over Bhola and adjoining area as a land depression at 6am.

It is likely to move in the North-Northeasterly direction further inland.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no.3, the bulletin added.
