The Power Development Board (PDB) will relocate around 450 kilometres of electricity distribution line due to expansion highways in recent years.

Vehicular movement is affected by tilt-down electricity wires and poles in many points of the expanded highways. The government expanded the Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Sylhet highways in last seven years.

PDB will require Tk 220.20 crore to relocate the power transmission line to a safe distance from roads and highways.

PDB’s 303.70 km distribution line, installed in the areas under Roads and Highway Department, will be relocated to keep the highways free from any obstruction.
Besides, another 145.86 km distribution line established under local government and other agencies will also be replaced for ensuring uninterrupted power supply, officials said.

“PDB is now relocating some distribution lines from highways in a priority basis,” PDB Secretary Mina Masud Uzzaman informed the Power Division Secretary in response to a quarry about the power distribution lines in question.

He also informed that PDB will require Tk 60 lakh per km to relocate 33/11/0.4 KV (kilovolts) line and Tk 40 lakh per km will be required to relocate the 11/0.4KV lines.

Earlier, the Road and Highway authorities requested the Power Division to relocate the distribution line from the middle of highways to help ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement during the Eid rush.
