BNP wants to get release of terrorists': Qamrul

Food Minister Qamrul Islam yesterday said BNP wants to get release of the terrorists, who attacked people with petrol bombs, in the name of making level-playing field in the next general election.

"At times BNP is talking about level-playing field and sometime they are talking on supportive government during the next general election...in fact they want to get release of the petrol bomb attackers," he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Trial of War criminals-role of movements from Bangabandhu to Sheikh Hasina and Jahanara Imam" arranged by Bangabandhu Shangskritik Jote (BSJ) at National Press Club.

The programme has been arranged marking the 23rd death anniversary of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam, who spearheaded the movement for trial of war criminals.

"There is no scope to create level playing field by releasing the miscreants who are accused of in different criminal cases," he said, adding, "The next election would be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."

With BSJ Advisor Syed Hasan Imam in the chair Vice-Chancellor of World University of Bangladesh Professor Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Monoronjan Ghoshal and BSJ General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana spoke.
