Bangladeshis 3rd in Malaysia’s second home programme

Bangladeshi citizens are the third largest foreigners to have accepted Malaysia as their second home.

According to a report of New Straits Times, a daily of Malaysia, the country has approved applications of 33,300 people from 126 countries since inception of a scheme to provide foreigners with residency facility in 2002.

Foreigners after fulfilling certain requirements including investment of money may avail themselves of the opportunity under Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

According to report, applications of 3,546 Bangladeshis were approved under the scheme.

China has topped the list with almost 8,714 approved participants, followed by Japan with 4,225 and Bangladesh 3,546.

The other participating countries are the UK, Iran, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Pakistan and India.

MM2H participants have contributed revenue amounting to 12.8 billion Malaysian Ringgits ($2.98 billion) to the local economy so far.

MM2H scheme is an international residency programme, which allows foreigners to live in the country on a long-stay visa of up to 10 years.

But the applicants must be below 50 years of age and meet financial and medical requirements.

MM2H facility recipients can travel the country with few restrictions and enjoy incentives including benefits on purchasing property and vehicles, tax and education.
