Passenger train service between Khulna and Kolkata, launched on April 7, has been suspended for indefinite period.

Indian railways authorities have reportedly decided to halt the service for security reasons.

Although the train service started marking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Delhi visit in April, passengers could avail themselves of the opportunity once a week.

Earlier, the railways ministries of Bangladesh and India decided to maintain the schedule until August 3 and then run the train daily subject to adequate number of passengers.

A report of Banglanews24.com says Indian Railway Board has not cleared the way for continuation of the train service.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the service through a video conference from New Delhi on April 7 this year.
