PM lays importance on sharing experience on water management

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today laid importance of water management experiences among delta countries for the benefit of the future generation as deltaic Bangladesh hosts a three day international water conference drawing experts and stakeholders from different countries and international organisations.

She made the call as representatives of different countries and organizations called 'Sherpas' and heads of the delegations of Water Conference 2017 and Delta conference today called on her at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel here today after inauguration of the three-day Water Conference-2017.

PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said welcoming the delegates the premier said they arrived during the monsoon of Bangladesh "which is the right time to understand and sharing their opinions and experience on water".

Sheikh hasina said water management is very crucial issue for Bangladesh. River erosion has posed an additional problem for the reverine country. However, Bangladesh is well-prepared to cater to any natural disaster, she said. 

Highlighting the threats of climate change prime minister said phenomenal changes of the climate is creating new problems for Bangladesh. Bangladesh is engaged in constant research to address the situation and protect its food production chain. As part of its constant endeavor, she said Bangladesh has already invented some saline and drought tolerant crops, she said. 

Local Government Minister Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Foreign Minister aH Mahmood Ali, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and Chief Coordinator on SDG Affairs in PMO Abul Kalam Azad were present, among others, during the call on. The press secretary said World Bank representative Jyoti Shukla particularly praised Bangladesh's tremendous success in sanitation. She also assured the Prime Minister of World Bank's to achieve the SDG target in water and sanitation, Karim said.
