3 more Biman Bangladesh Hajj flights cancelled

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been forced to cancel three more Hajj flights due to shortage of Hajj pilgrims after two days of smooth operation.

The three flights cancelled were BG 1051, scheduled to depart today, and BG 3039 and BG 3041, scheduled to take off Sunday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager (public relations) Shakil Meraj said.

Taking this three, a total of 17 Hajj flights have been cancelled so far this season losing the opportunity to send over 9,700 pilgrims to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims have also expressed their agitation over the cancellations.

As many as 127,198 pilgrims from Bangladesh are set to perform the annual ritual this year.

Biman and Saudi Arabian Airlines would carry equal number of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

The maiden pre-hajj flight started on July 24.

The last date of pre-hajj flight is August 26.
