5 Nigerians among 7 held for ‘fraud’

Police in separate drives arrested seven people including five Nigerians from different districts under Dhaka division for their alleged involvement with a scam ring.  

 The Nigerian arrestees are Fred Amah Ede, 42, Ezeugo Kelechi Musa, 37, Joshlia Micheal Chukwuka, 36, Okoro Austin Aneto, 30, and Agwah Reginald Ike, 38, while the Bangladeshis are Jewel Rana, 33, and Sahera Begum, 36, said Ahsan Habib Palash, special superintendent of Police Bureau of Investigation.

They were arrested from Gazipur, Manikganj and Dhaka yesterday, the special superintendent said at a press briefing at PBI headquarters in Dhanmondi.

“They allure people using various strategies and message them on different social media platforms. And when they respond, the gang asks them to send money,” Palash said.

The scam ring has taken Tk 10 lakh from five people so far, the official added.
