Suspected robber killed in Brahmanbaria 'gunfight'

A suspected robber has been killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Deura village in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Rupak Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, said police arrested Mamun Mia, 32, son of Shafiuddin of Kuttapara village in the upazila, along with three sharp weapons from Nabinagar upazila around 3:00 pm on Wednesday.

Later, police along with Mamun conducted a drive in the area to recover looted goods during robbery in the night.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the associates of Mamun opened fire on police in a bid to snatch away Mamun, prompting police to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, Mamun caught in the line of fire and died on the spot on Thursday.

Police recovered one fire arms, two bullets, eight shells of bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot.

Mamun was wanted in several cases, said the OC.
