Dhaka city dwellers experienced immense suffering due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday early morning.

Office goers and students suffered the worst as most of them had to wait hours after hours to get transport to reach their respective destinations.

Many city streets went under water, slowing down the movement of the vehicles.

Moniruzzaman, who works for a private bank, said he somehow managed to reach his office in the old part of Dhaka.

"I was not getting a rickshaw after moving off a bus at Shahbagh intersection, and then a rickshaw puller waded through the water on a broken Nazimuddin Road," he added.

Many school students were waiting at Kaderabad housing in Mohammadpur in the morning.

Shamil Tasreef, a class one student of Children's Imagination International School, said, "How can I go to school after being showered by rain on my way?"

Various streets in the Mohammadpur area were stuck with vehicles, causing further problems for the commuters.

Met official Abdul Mannan said it rained heavily since 6:00am.

"We have recorded around 54 millimeters rain from 6:00am to 9:00am in the morning," he added.

The official also said light to moderate rain may occur in many parts of the country on the day (today).
