SC clears way for FBCCI polls

The Supreme Court today cleared the way for holding election of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) scheduled to be held on May 14.

The apex court today scrapped a High Court order that on March 22 stayed the process for holding the FBCCI election for two months.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order following a petition filed by FBCCI authorities challenging the High Court order.

Barrister Imtiaz Mainul Islam, a lawyer for FBCCI, told the Daily Star that there is no legal bar for the authorities concerned to hold FBCCI elections on May 14 following the Supreme Court order.

Following a petition filed by Mymensingh Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Aminul Haque Shamim, the HC on March 22 the election process.

Aminul Huque filed the petition saying that there are anomalies in the voter list as his name was not included in the list.
