Last homage paid to mayor Annisul Huq

Thousands of people paid tributes to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Annisul Huq as his body was kept at the Banani Army Stadium to facilitate people from all walks of life to pay their last homage.

A namaz-e-janaza was held there before taking his body to Banani graveyard where he was buried around 5:00pm.

On behalf of president Abdul Hamid, military secretary major general Sarwar Hossain, on behalf of the prime minister, military secretary major general Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin, on behalf of speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, captain Mushtaq Ahmed, on behalf of ruling Bangladesh Awami League party its general secretary Obaidul Quader, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon and deputy leader in parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury paid their respects to Annisul.

A businessman, Annis was elected mayor in 2015 on the AL’s ticket.

Representatives from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) also paid tributes.

Family members said the qul khwani of Annisul will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers on 6 December, Wednesday.   

Earlier in the day, the body of Annisul Huq reached in Dhaka by a flight of Bangladesh Biman.

The flight BG002 of Bangladesh from Heathrow airport in London carried the body of Annisul to Bangladesh that reached Dhaka around 1:00pm after a halt in Sylhet.

Mayor’s personal secretary Abraul Hasan said Awami League general secretary and also roads transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, and Bangladesh Army chief, also younger brother of Annisul Huq, general Abu Belal M Shafiul Huq were present at Dhaka airport.

Abraul Hasan also said the body of Annisul was first taken to his Banani residence from the airport.

AL president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina visited Annisul’s residence to pay her last tribute to him.

Annisul was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital after he was admitted there on 13 August. Later, he was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq passed away on Thursday night.
