Landline services of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTCL) have been disrupted across the country as its core cable was cut off  in the city’s Bangla Motor area on Thursday night.

BTCL Managing Director Mahfujuddin Ahmed said the landline services will not be restored before 6pm today and the government will lose revenue of Tk 5 crore for the disruption in the services.

BTCL director Mir Mohammad Morshed (Public Relations) said Dhaka City Corporation workers snapped the core cable of BTCL while constructing drain in New Easkaton area last night.

“BTCL came to know the matter on Friday morning and immediately started the renovation work and hopefully the problem will be resolved with few hours,” he said.

Landlines across the country, including the emergency helpline numbers of Bangladesh Fire Service, went out of order following the accident, he said.

BTCL sources said BTCL has over 8 lakh landline service holders across the country.
