The 46th anniversary of Victory Day of Bangladesh was celebrated by Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad on Saturday with great enthusiasm and festivity.

A daylong programme was organised on the Chancery premises with the participation of the expatriate Bangladesh community in Islamabad, Pakistan and the officers and staff members of the High Commission.

The morning session of the event began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag of Bangladesh by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan on the Chancery premises in presence of all the officers and staff members of the High Commission.

A photographic exhibition inaugurated by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan was arranged on the Chancery premises on this occasion, said a press release on Sunday.

A good number of photographs, chronologically covering the period from 70’s election to the day of victory, were displayed in the exhibition which evoked keen interest from the guests and participants, especially from the youngsters.

Later, a discussion session highlighting the significance of the Victory Day was held. At the very beginning, messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, released on the occasion, were read out.

Tarik Ahsan paid rich tributes to the memories of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at whose call people from all walks of life joined the War of Liberation in 1971.

He expressed profound gratitude for the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs, the wounded and the mothers and sisters who lost their dignity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

He said Bangladesh is now marching forward on the path of development through realising the huge potentials of its people in the free atmosphere of an independent country.

The High Commissioner said recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs and cherishing the spirit of the Liberation War can provide the right direction for our pursuit of a Bangladesh that is economically developed as well as socially humane.

Defence Advisor of the High Commission Brigadier General Khondakar Shafiur Rahman, among others, also took part in the discussion.

After the discussion, a special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the Liberation War.
