Jasimuddin’s 115th birth anniv being observed

The 115th birth anniversary of Polli Kobi (rustic poet) Jasimuddin is being observed on Monday.

Jasimuddin birth anniversary celebration committee, district and police administration, members of Faridpur Press Club and different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the grave of the poet near his family residence at Ambikapur in the morning.

A discussion on the life and works of the poet and a doa mahfil were held. 

Jasimuddin, a poet, songwriter, prose writer, folklore collector and radio personality, was born at Tambulkhana village in Koijuri union of Faridpur on January 1 in 1903.

Jasimuddin started writing poems at an early age. As a college student, he wrote the celebrated poem 'Kabar' (The Grave). The poem was placed in the Bengali textbook for entrance examinees while he was still a student of Calcutta University. 

He is noted for his depiction of rural life and nature from the viewpoint of rural people. This had earned him fame as Polli Kobi (rustic poet).
