A day after closure, TSC tea stalls reopen

The tea stalls in Teacher Student Centre (TSC) area of Dhaka University, which were closed by the university authorities for providing unhealthy and unhygienic food items, were reopened on Tuesday.

Visiting the spot, the UNB DU correspondent reported that the makeshift tea stalls, remained shut since last night, were reopened around 1:30 pm.

One of the tea stall owners, Abdul Jalil, said on Monday night a Proctor’s team asked them to shut the stalls and they later permitted them to reopen those instructing them to improve the quality of their food items.

Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani told reporters that they did not formally issue any notice to close the stalls but warned them about the unhealthy food that might pose a threat to students’ health.  “They can open the stalls but must maintain the quality of food,” he said.

Earlier on October 17, the Dhaka University authorities asked all concerned to wrap up all the cultural and social activities at TSC by 8:00pm. However, they relaxed the order later in the face of widespread criticisms.
