Detectives have arrested three suspected muggers from the city’s Badda and Jatrabari areas in connection with the snatching of Tk 40 lakh from the employees of a garment factory of Uttara.

The arrestees are Mohammad Jewel Rana, Mohammad Masud Rana and Antu Hawlader.

Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of DB, at a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police(DMP) media centre on Thursday said a team of DB police arrested the trio from Badda and Jatrabari areas along with Tk 6 lakh snatched money on Wednesday.

On December 9, muggers snatched away Tk 40 lakh at gunpoint from the employees of a garment factory of Uttara in the capital introducing themselves as DB police.

Sayeed Mahmud, an accountant of “Tokyo Mode Ltd,” located at Road no-5 under Uttara Sector-5, went to Dhaka Bank’s Uttara Branch by a microbus to withdraw Tk 40 lakh, said Russel Ahmed, commercial manager of the company.

When the accountant entered the microbus along with the withdrawn money, a group of muggers identifying themselves as DB police swooped on the vehicle.

The muggers fled the scene with the money boarding another microbus leaving Sayeed and driver Russel on the street of Kuril Bishwa Road. A case was filed with Airport Police Station on that day.
