Public life in the divisional Rajshahi city remained almost normal since this morning as the people did not respond to the nationwide hartal called by the Jamaat-e-Islami.

There was no report of any picketing and presence of any leaders and activists of the party in support of their political programme till this afternoon.

All kinds of transports were seen plying on the city streets and the inter-district buses were also seen leaving and arriving from and to the city as usual.

All the inter-city and local trains including the Dhaka bound Silk city and Padma, Khulna bound Kobotak, Sagardari and Varendra left Rajshahi station for their respective destinations on time.

Meanwhile, additional police, RAB and BGB were deployed in the city's key points to avert any untoward incident centering the hartal.

Sarder Tamiz Uddin, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, told the journalists that armed police forces were deployed in all the key points to avert any sabotage during the hartal period.

On the other hand, four platoons of BGB were posted side by side with the police and RAB.

The BGB personnel are patrolling in and outside the city areas as striking force, said Lt Col Shahjahan Siraj, Commanding Officer of 1 BGB Battalion.
