‘Criminal’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A suspected criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Pipulbaria Kalurmath in Daulatpur upazila early Monday.

Being tipped off that a gang of criminals gathered in the area, a team of police conducted a drive around 3:15 am, said Dara Khan, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.

Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left top terror Altab Hossain, 38, son of Mosharaf Hossain, dead on the spot.

However, his associates managed to flee the scene.

Police also recovered a foreign pistol, one round bullet and 3 machetes from the spot.

Besides, three policemen including sub-inspector Rajjak and assistant sub-inspector Arif were hurt in the gunfight, claimed the OC.
