People are still suffering in tailbacks at several points on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Law enforcers this morning said traffic jam on the highway at Comilla portion started to ease.

The gridlock has been reduced to four or five kilometers between Daulatkandi toll plaza and Shahidnagar, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi highway police out post.

Vehicles are moving very slowing at this point, the police official said.

Meanwhile, there is a heavy pressure of vehicles on the both sides of the highway between Meghna and Meghna-Gumti bridges, Humayun Kabir, OC of Gazaria Police Station.

Since last evening, traffic movement was slow on the highway following the removal of a vehicle which broke down yesterday morning intensifying traffic congestion.

Tailbacks stretched to 110km near Feni for almost five days due to bottlenecks caused by the construction work of a flyover at Fatehpur.

But yesterday's gridlock ensued from several other spots. Women and children suffered the most as vehicles on both sides of the road crawled to a halt.

Vehicles heading towards Dhaka were subjected to a 35-km tailback between Kutumbopur of Chandina and Meghna Bridge early yesterday while those leaving the capital experienced a 30-km long queue from Jatrabari.
