Road crashes kill 7 in Bogra, Tongi, Comilla

At least seven persons, including a woman, have been killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Bogra, Tongi and Comilla.

In Bogra, five people were killed in two separate road accidents on Dhaka-Bogra highway and in Sherpur Upazila of the district.

On Wednesday, at least three people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the highway.

The deceased were identified as the passenger of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw Alimuddin Pramanik, 70, Manjuara Begum, 60 and Shafiqul Islam, 42, was identified as the driver of the three-wheeler.

All three of them hailed from Shajahanpur upazila of Bogra , said Sub-Inspector (SI), Susanta Kumar Saha in Shahjahanpur Police Station.

The accident took place near the Majhira bus stop area around 6:30am, when a Bogra-bound passenger bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a CNG-operated three-wheeler on the highway, the SI said adding that two passengers died on the way to hospital and another died while undergoing treatment.

The bus has been seized, but the bus driver and helper has managed to flee the scene

In Sherpur upazila, two motor bikers died after their motorcycle hit a roadside tree at the Salpa area on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Md Shamim Reza, 28, and Md Shohel Rana, 27, both hailed from Hazra Hati village of the upazila confirmed, Md Humayun Kabir officer-in-charge of the Sherpur police station.

In Tongi, a mother of two children was killed as a bus of Turag Paribahan ran over her on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Bithi Akhter, 30, a resident of Dattapara area in Tongi, confirmed Chandan De, sub inspector (SI) of Tongi Police Station.

Bithi along with her two children Tumpa, 6, and Rafi, 3, was returning from her sister’s house in Cherag Ali area of Tongi around 12:00pm yesterday, said the SI quoting her two children.

When Bithi reached the highway, the Turag Paribahan bus ran over her from behind, he said.


She was rushed to Tongi upazila health complex, from where she was shifted to Shin-Shin Japan Hospital in Uttara as her condition deteriorated.

However, Bithi succumbed to her injuries when locals were taking her to Shin-Shin Japan Hospital.

Both the children are safe, the SI said

The victim’s body was later sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The bus driver however, fled the scene right after the accident.

Police have seized the Turag Paribahan bus, but the driver managed to flee the scene after the incident, the police official added.

In Comilla, a person died on the spot and 20 others were injured in road accident yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Rubel, 24, haliling from Kachua upazila of Chandpur.

Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, told that a Dhaka-bound bus from Chandpur collided head-on with a private car on Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The accident occurred as the bus driver lost control over the wheels, the OC said.

“We have rescued 20 injured passengers and sent them to Daudkandi upazila health complex,” OC Abul Kalam Azad added.
