Huge illegally imported medicine seized at Dhaka airport

Members of Customs intelligence seized a huge quantity of restricted and illegally imported medicine from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

The medicine, worth Tk 1.6 crore, was found in a Hajj flight that came in from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia around 5:00 pm, said Dr Shahidul Islam, director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID).

Acting on a tip-off, a team of CIID remained alert in the airport premises, he said.

After arrival of the flight (SV 808), the team started searching luggage and found the illegal medicine inside eight luggages.

The seized medicines are Albumin inj 50ml, Lantus solostar ing, Neoral 100mg, Levemir 100ml, Anxate Flumazel cap, Rhophylac 300mg, Victroza 6mg, Euthrox 50 mg tablet, Cipralex 10 mg, Lepra Levetiractam 500 mg, Mimpara, Novorapid 100 uml, Cellcept 500 mg, One Alpha 25 mg and Salazopyrin 500ml.

Necessary legal steps will be taken under the customs act, the official added.
