3 Dhaka hospitals fined Tk 27 lakh for irregularities

A mobile court fined three private hospitals including Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhanmondi a total of Tk 27 lakh for using outdated reagents, surgical items and other irregularities.

The mobile court team of Rab-2 along with Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) launched the day-long drive in the three hospitals yesterday, Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam said.

Anwar Khan Modern Hospital was fined Tk 8 lakh, Dhanmondi General and Kidney Hospital Ltd was fined Tk 9 lakh and Panorama Hospital Ltd Tk 10 lakh, said Sarwoer Alam, who led the drive.

During the drive at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital, the team found some expired reagents in the pathology lab and surgical items which expired in 2015, Sarwoer Alam said.

The mobile-court team found expired medicines at the Operation theatre of Dhanmondi General and Kidney Hospital, the official said. They were also found to have faked signature of pathologist in the medical report, realise excess medical bill and for wrongly testing the blood-groups of patients, the official added.

The team recovered a large number of expired medicines, surgical items and saline from the Operation theatre of Panorama Hospital in Dhanmondi.
