Jaywalkers fined at Farmgate

Dozens of Jaywalkers have been fined by a magistrate in Dhaka's Farmgate area.

A mobile court of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) led by Executive Magistrate Sarah Sadia Taznin conducted the operation and fined around 26 people at the busiest VIP road of the capital since this morning.

The drive against jaywalkers was continuing at the police box point of Farmgate with a 45 minutes gap for the movement of prime minister, said the executive magistrate.

All the traffic rule violators have been fined Tk 50 each for not using over-bridge, 20 underage and student pedestrians have been released upon bonds, the executive magistrate said.

Three motor cycle passengers were charged Tk 200 each for not wearing helmets, Sarah Sadia also said.

Similar operation by BRTA is going on at Mohakhali area since morning as well, a BRTA official said.
