‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Ulichamari area of Teknaf upazila early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ziaul Bohir Shahin, 30, son of Syed Hossain, a resident of Paschim Sikderpara  in Hneela upazila, accused in seven cases.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said a team of police arrested Ziaul on Friday.

After gleaning information, police conducted a drive in the area along with Ziaul to recover Yaba and arms.

When the team reached the area, a gang of terrorists opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, that triggered the gunfight.

Ziaul received bullet and died on the spot.

After the gunfight, police recovered 15,000 Yaba tablets, 3 arms and 15 rounds of  bullet.
