Cops trying to break in Banglamotor home over ‘hostage situation’

Policemen are reportedly trying to break into a house in Dhaka’s Banglamotor area suspecting that a father held his two children hostage inside the house.

Confirming the development, Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner of DMP (Ramna division), told The Daily Star that the man, Akhtaruzzaman Kajol, is mentally unstable and his wife has left him for this reason. However, the couple’s two sons live with Kajol, the DC added.

Witnesses said that Kajol went out of the house around 8:00am this morning and brought in a cleric (Moulvi) for offering prayers at the house.

After the prayers, the cleric informed Shahbagh police that he saw a child in an unconscious state inside the house.

Informed, a team of Shahbagh police led by Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan went to the house and found it was locked from inside.

Police were trying to break into the house till filing of this report at 12:00pm.
