Ward councillor stabbed to death in Natore

Unidentified criminals today stabbed to death a ward councillor of Gopalpur municipality in Natore district.

The deceased, Jamilur Rahman Jamil, was the councillor of Ward No 8 of the municipality in Lalpur upazila, said Nazrul Islam Jewel, officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station.

Jamil was attacked when he was returning to his house around 1:00pm, the police official said.

The incident occurred when Jamil went near to a human chain in Gopalpur bazar area, which was formed demanding justice for the murder of a Jubo League man named Jahirul, the police official said.

Unknown criminals attacked Jamil with sharp weapons leaving him critically injured, the OC said.

He was rushed to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Jamil was one of the key accused in the case filed in connection with the murder of the murdered Jubo League man Jahirul, the police official said.

Law enforcers were deployed in the area following the incident as a tense situation was prevailing there.
