DMP issues traffic guideline for Amar Ekushey

For the peaceful observance of Amar Ekushey, police have slapped some restrictions on traffic and general movement inside Dhaka University campus and its surrounding areas from February 20 to 21.

Movement inside DU from 8:00pm onwards, February 20, will be restricted. Entry points to the campus will be sealed for outsiders, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in its news portal today.

Other than DU students, teachers and staffers, no other vehicles or persons would be able to enter the campus area from 8:00pm onwards, according to the DMP guideline.

The restriction will be lifted after the president and the prime minister leave the Shaheed Minar premises paying homage to the language movement martyrs.

Only vehicles with some DU stickers will be allowed to enter.

Route guidelines for traffic
VVIP visitors will enter Central Shaheed Minar premises using the Matsya Bhaban - Doyel Chattar - Gymnesium - Romana Chattar route to pay homage to the language martyrs.

Mass people will have to use Palashi intersection -Jagannath Hall route.

Palashi intersection will be reserved for the VVIP visitors to pay homage and will remain barricaded for the commoners till 12:30am. After that mass people will be able to enter.

Road diversion will be enforced in Nilkhet, Palashi, Fuller Road, Bakshibazar, Chankharpool, Shahidullah Hall, Doyel Chattar, Gymnasium, Ramna Chattar, High Court, TSC, Shahbagh points leading to Dhaka University campus to restrict rampant access. The diversion will remain in force from 8:00pm, February 20, to noon of February 21.

The road in front of the Shaheed Minar will be off limit from 8:00pm, February 19 to 6:00pm, February 20.
