3 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in ‘gunfights’

Three alleged drug peddlers have been killed in separate “gunfights” between police and their cohorts in Dhaka, Khulna and Mymensingh.

The deceased were identified as Hazrat Ali, 35, of Dhaka; Masud Rana alias Masud, 35, of Khulna; and Abdur Rashid, 50, of Mymensingh.

In Dhaka, Ali has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Gendaria of Jatrabari, police said in a text message sent to media.

In Mymensingh, Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of Mymensingh police, said acting on a tip-off that a group of drug traders would gather in the area, a team of DB police conducted a drive.

Sensing their presence, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to fire back that triggered a “gunfight”, leaving Rashid injured.

Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

One pipe gun and 100 grammes of heroin were recovered from the spot.

Two policemen were also injured during the “gunfight”, he said.
