Ducsu Vice-president (VP)-elect Nurul Haq Nur was assaulted again allegedly by some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Tuesday afternoon.

Nur and other leaders of quota reformist panel who contested the Ducsu polls were attacked by some 20-30 members of BCL in front of Dhaka University Teachers Students Centre (TSC) area, said witnesses.

They chanted slogans condemning the results of Monday’s election and assaulted Nur physically. Some other students, who were trying to save him, also came under attack and got injured.

The incident took place when a number of student organisations and alliances that contested the Ducsu election were demonstrating on the campus demanding fresh polls.

Supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League candidate Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon rejected the results of the vice-president post as he was defeated by quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur.

Shovon’s followers have been demonstrating in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence since Tuesday morning.

BCL leader Noyon Hawlader, a supporter of Shovon, claimed Nur is a member of Islami Chhatra Shibir and alleged that there had been irregularities in the polls.

“We want reelection,” he told UNB.

All panels, except the BCL, rejected polls results alleging irregularities. But it is unclear whether Nur will take over as VP of the DU student body.

Classes remained suspended at the university on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, activists of BNP student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal are demonstrating in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla demanding reelection, while the leftist panel is protesting it in TSC area.

The BCL panel won all the seats except that of the VP and social services.

The Ducsu polls triggered criticisms from various quarters, including the current and former students of the university, and political parties, notably the BNP.
