20 buildings to be declared as ideal ones for fire safety: Atikul

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor (DNCC) Atikul Islam said on Saturday 20 buildings will be declared as ideal ones considering their fire safety arrangements.

The Mayor came up with the announcement after inaugurating the activities of ‘Building Inspection Team’ at Nagar Bhaban, aiming to create awareness about fire safety.

The team started their work after inspecting the existing fire safety system at Nagar Bhaban and then they inspected super shop ‘Unimart’ located at the basement of the building.

After inspection, the team expressed concern over the inadequate fire extinguishing arrangements at Nagar Bhaban and Unimart.

Speaking on the occasion, Atikul said that the team will examine fire-exit stairs, fire alarm, fire extinguishing training of security guards, regular fire drill and fire extinguishing equipment in multistoried shopping malls, hospitals and educational institutions.
