One killed, 4 others hurt as beam of school building collapses in Barguna

A female student was killed and four others were injured at Chotobogi PK Primary School at Taltoli of Barguna on Saturday as a beam of the school building collapsed on them. 

The tragic incident happened at around 12:00pm.

The deceased was identified as Mansura, who was a student of class three of the school. 

She breathed her last while she was being taken to the Amtoli Upazila Health Complex after the accident. 

Mansura was the youngest child of two daughters and one son of Nazir Hossain Talukder, a local farmer. 

The other injured are Sadia Akhter, Ruma, Ismail and Shahin. They all are the students of class three of the school. 

There is allegation that irregularities took place while constructing the school building. 

Chotobogi Union chairman Toufiq-uz-Zaman Tonu said, “The collapsed building was constructed in 2002 by a contractor organisation named Setu Enterprise. The building was also renovated several times. The incident happened because of the use of substandard construction materials and negligence of the contractor organisation.” 

The office-in-charge of Taltoli Police Station confirmed the fact. 

“Law enforcing members have been sent to the spot soon after the incident. The injured students are now out of risk. The authorities of the school have also been asked to stop teaching. If any written complaint is issued, we will take legal action”, he said.
