3 farmers killed in Sylhet thunder strike

At least three farmers were killed in a thunder strike at a village in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet today.

The deceased were identified as Jitu Miah of Terakuri village of the upazila, Rajon Miah and Anwar Hossain of Laksmipasha village of Golapganj upazila, said police.

The victims went to Dhubrir Haor to harvest Boro paddy where they were struck by lightning around 11:00am and died on the spot, ouoting witnesses, Abul Bashar Md Badruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fenchiganj Police Station, said quoting eyewitnesses.

“The bodies have been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy”, the police official added.

Ayesha Haque, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of the upazila visited the village and handed over some money to Jitu Miah’s family.
