Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque’s 57th death anniversary today

The 57th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque is being observed across the country on Saturday with due respect.

Different socio-political organisations, professional bodies and institutions have chalked out various programmes to mark the day.

The programmes include placing wreaths and offering fateha at the grave of the great leader, holding milad and doa mahfils and discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

 Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque, popularly known as Sher-e-Bangla, died on April 27, 1962.

Born on October 26, 1873 at Chakhar of Barisal's Bakerganj, Sher-e-Bangla held different political posts, including those of the mayor of Kolkata (1935), chief minister of undivided Bengal (1937-1943) and East Pakistan (1954), home minister of Pakistan (1955) and governor of East Pakistan (1956- 58).

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.
