At least 10 villages in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali, a coastal area in Bangladesh, were flooded after two dams were damaged this morning due to severe cyclone Fani.

Around 35,250 people were moved to different cyclone centres in the coastal district, said Matiul Islam Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of the district.

The cyclonic storm, Fani, hit Puri coast in Odisha around 9:00am and large areas in the temple town and other places were submerged as heavy rain battered the coast in India.

Meanwhile, Khulna and adjoining southwestern districts of Bangladesh have been witnessing effects of cyclonic storm Fani since this morning.
