Three policemen of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) were suspended on Monday on charge of mugging.

The accused policemen are Assistant Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam and constables Monirul Islam and Sujon of Rajpara Police station.

They have been attached to Rajshahi Police Lines, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station.

On April 29, Abdul Hakim Manik of Haripur Sahapara in Chapainawabganj filed a written complaint to RMP chief.

Manik said that his brother Md Salauddin suffered a heart attack and came to Rajshahi for treatment. A team of police led by ASI Shariful tortured his brother and took TK 7,000 from him threatening to file a case against him.

The policemen were not wearing uniform at the time of the incident but they were traced by tracking number plates of their motorcycles.

RMP spokesperson Golam Ruhul Kuddus said that a deputy commissioner investigated the allegation and primarily found it to be true.
