The High Court on Tuesday asked the government officials and mass media not to use the word ‘fake’ before a freedom fighter or call him as a fake one.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order on Tuesday after hearing a petition.

If the directives are violated, the HC will summon the violators.

Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar represented the state.

After the hearing, Mahmud Bashar informed the journalists, “The High Court said if the word fake is used before freedom fighters, it insults our valiant freedom fighters of the Liberation War.”

He also said none, whoever he is a government official or a newsman, must use the word fake before freedom fighters, our nation’s best sons.

“Citing from article-7 (Jha) of the National Freedom Fighter Council Act-2002, the HC said, if one manages fake certificate of freedom fighter through fraudulence, it’s his/her crime. For this, we can’t insult or defame the community of the freedom fighters as a whole,” Mahmud Bashar added.

The state prosecutor also said the HC ordered authorities concerned to take stern action against those, who collected fake certificates of freedom fighters through forgery.
