Vessel movement at Chattogram port suspended after an accident between 2 vessels

Vessel movement at Chattogram port has been halted after an accident between two vessels in the port's channel.

An empty oil tanker “MT-Burgan” collided with an oncoming cargo ship named Express Mohananda near Guptaband point in the Karnaphuli channel around 8:30am, said Md Omar Faruk, secretary of Chattogram post authority.

After the collision, the port authorities suspended the vessel movement for the time being, he said.

A cargo vessel was sent to rescue the ships which were stuck in the narrow channel, the secretary said.

No casualty was reported in the incident, he added.
