The bodies of six people were found from the sea beach at Seagull Point of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila today.

Police suspect that all the deceased were fishermen and they drowned after their trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, said Md Khairuzzaman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station.

“As we found a trawler at the beach and recovered two, out of the six bodies inside it, we suspect that they drowned after their trawler sank, the OC said.

The law enforcers also rescued two people in an unconscious state and rushed them to Sadar Hospital.

Informed by locals, four bodies were found around 3:00am while two at about 9:00am, the OC said adding that they were trying to identify the deceased.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The fishermen might have gone to sea for fishing at night to avoid legal action as fishing is banned at the sea at present, locals said.
