‘Autorickshaw thief’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

An active member of an autorickshaw thief gang was killed in a reported gunfight with Mymensingh district police early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Khalil, 37, accused of 8 autorickshaw stealing cases

Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge (OC) of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Mymensingh, said being informed that a group of people are trading illegal autorickshaw, police conducted a drive at Badecallpa area to arrest them.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that led to a gunfight, the OC added.

Later, police rescued bullet hit Khalil from the spot and took him to Mymensingh medical college and Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

One pipe gun and two illegal autorickshaws were also recovered from the scene, Kamal added.
