President, PM mourns death of Fazle Hasan Abed

On Friday, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned the death of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder and emeritus chairman of the BRAC.

They shared their deep sorrow in separate condolence messages and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for Abed's beloved soul's eternal peace.

The head of the state expressed deep grief and sadness at his passing in a letter of condolence. The President recounted his commitment to the country's socio-economic development. "With due respect, the country will long honor him," he said.

Expressing profound shock and sorrow at the death of BRAC founder and chair emeritus Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the Prime Minister said Fazle Hasan Abed played an important role in helping, raising funds and building public sentiment in favor of Bangladesh's great war of liberation.

"He (Abed) even worked after independence to restore the war-ravaged Bangladesh," she said, adding that a benevolent individual like him had suffered an irreparable loss in the nation's demise.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for the departed soul's eternal peace and showed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed died friday night at the age of 83 from a brain tumor at a city hospital.
