20 shanties, 14 shops gutted in Kalshi fire

The fire that broke out at Hirur Maar Slum early Friday in Mirpur's Kalshi area in the city dumped 20 shanties and 14 shops

Ershad Hossain, a Fire Service and Civil Defense Control room duty officer, said the fire started at 12:50 am from an electronic short circuit.

Fourteen shops and 20 slum shanties were burnt into ruins before the firefighters took control of the blaze around 1:50am, he added, adding that the incident caused an approximate loss of Tk 1.2 million.

Eleven units of firefighting worked frenzied to douse the fire and rescued from the scene property worth Tk 2 million, he added.
